| | | Re: grasshopper I think Field Grasshopper as this colouration matches one in my ID book. Sharply angled keels give a clue.
I don't know which sex it is.
Nice picture!

| | Re: grasshopper Hi Deb, thanks for the reply,
Apart from a 'grass path' we've let the old 'lawn' just 'grow out', and the variety of wildlife visiting has increased considerably.
We don't have anything rare or exotic in the garden, but its probably a better environment for those creatures that do choose to take up residence, be that a slug or an osprey[we don't currently have any osprey in the garden!]. And do you know what...there's as much 'enjoyment' in watching a snail or the grasshopper above battle its way across the garden as there is in spotting something you haven't seen before.
Thanks for the complimentary photo 'pat on the back!' The grasshopper pic was taken on a D3 with a twenty year old manual focus 55 mm micro nikkor lens. |

| | | Re: grasshopper I envy you having this gr'opper. I had a Field visit briefly, so I grew some the grass for them (and the froglets) and have not seen one since.
Mind you, I've just seen some grass moths, which I like (although I know nothing about them yet) so I am well chuffed. I agree the smallest things, insignificant to others, can make your day!

| | | Re: grasshopper Yes field grasshopper for me too it has a very hairy underside to its thorax which is another clue alongside the keel shape.
