| | | Wasps for ID... Having received very quick responses for both fly and spider IDs so far, I'm going to push my luck and ask for help with five wasps - all from non-coastal Dorset uncultivated grassland, with both mature oak and immature native and orchard trees, seen from 30th of July to the 2nd of August
I have a (very) vague idea that this one is some form of Ambyletes? It was big, probably nearly two centimetres without its antennae, didn't have any noticeable ovipositor, and was seen - often in loose groups of three or four - on all four days
I'm going with Ichneumon on this one - although there were quite a few like this one around, this was the only one that stayed still long enough for a half-decent photograph.
This one is another fairly poor shot - of an unmarked beastie, so I'm particularly not expecting feedback on this one. Not more than about 6mm long, probably less, only noticed on trees, but small enough that I probably didn't notice it elsewhere. I did think it could be some sort of gall wasp, but don't know at all.
And one more,
Beyond not being a social wasp, I really haven't even a wisp of an idea what this one is. Again not a great pictures, so I'm not really expecting a detailed ID, more just hoping.
Thanks,
William |

| | | Re: Wasps for ID... Thanks for that - A. armotarius was the only one for which I was entertainign any real hope could be identified, so the suggestions for 2 and 4 are an unexpected bonus!
edit - it seems that as well as being unable to spell Amblyteles, I cannot count. Sorry for that | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
