Very unusual Fly ID help please?

This fly was in my garden today feeding on flowering mint. It does not appear to be a Hoverfly but does seem to be a bumble bee imitator. Any help with ID would be very welcome, thank you.

Matt runs the Tachinid recording scheme. This is a nice find, if you could provide Matt with your name, date and location (grid reference or post code) so he can add it to the map it would be most helpful.

As JR says, I organise the Tachinid Recording Scheme along with Chris Raper, I'd like to add your sighting to our database so that will eventually make its way onto the national distribution map for this species. Nowickia has a bit of an odd distribution (see here) so I am keen to get records for this species, along with any other Tachinids.

At the minimum, what is needed for a good record is; Who , where, what , when:

Who - thats you - I can live with screen names but prefer real names

What - Nowickia ferox

Where - location, either a OS Grid Ref or postcode is best, plus a location name if possible

When - date of your sighting.

If you sent the stuff to Chris then it will get to me. No more photos neded, the one you posted is enough to get an ID from in this case.
