I believe Sarcophagidae - a so-called Satellite Fly, in the region of Metopia.

I would have called this fly a Flesh Fly, an annoying little jasper that lands on bare ankles and "bites" them in the autumn.

Is this one and the same?

Flesh fly is Sarcophagidae, but it's not Metopia.

Take a look at one the same which I had.

Thanks Janet, I've had a look at Blowave's images and have resolved to have a closer look at those annoying ankle aggressors when they arrive in the house.

Another instance where WAB has stimulated an interest!
