| | | Fly id please Hello,
Does anyone recognise this fly seen on Hogweed today ? It has golden hairs around the bases of the wings and the wings themselves appeared quite dark.
Unfortunately I couldn't get any more angles on it before it departed.
Thanks, Rob

| | | Re: Fly id please Just going by what I can see of the wing veins, there appears to be cross veins at the wing tips which look a bit like a hoverfly species. Pospilly one of the Pipizini family.
But this is really only a wild guess. |

Thanks Matt, I've not seen one of these before and will keep my eyes open for another.
The exact spot on the Ordnance Survey OL29 for the Isle of Wight is 579874, on the western edge of Eaglehead Copse, around 1.10pm, 7/08/2011.

| | | Re: Fly id please I've had both male and female turn up on my Achillea millefolium. The male this year was huge, a good 13mm or more! Extremely broad with it.

I have others, but can put those together later for you. I have three which need names so I will try to put those on diptera.info soon. I'm way behind with naming my photos and they are still in their many folders!
Do you still have my location?

I have your location on the database already unless you have moved your garden. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
