| | Buff Ermine x 4 We have found 4 Buff Ermine caterpillars in our sunny back yard in Lancaster, UK. They are amazingly fast and look quite funny. Does anyone know when they will begin to pupate? Thanks |

| | | Re: Buff Ermine x 4 They are polyphagus so they feed from a wide variety of plant species. I usually find them on currents, nettles, hawthorn, oaks etc. The adults are found betwen May to (usually July) September as adults. They usually overwinter as mature larvae/or pupa. What sort of things do you want to know about them? |

| | | Re: Buff Ermine x 4 Thats great, insects are a very good subject for children. I also find children are very good at finding them, when I have done guided walks. These guys usually pupate below the ground, sometimes under a log or under dense leaf litter. |

| | | Re: Buff Ermine x 4 thats great, i will leave the area alone that they are wondering in then let them do what they need to do. Thanks for your help. We also ordered some cabbage white butterfly larvae and we have one big caterpillar that is eating well, my daughter loves watching him change and grow...it has given her something to focus on during the school hols :-) | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
