Identification of unknown
Any body please identify these ? Seen hundreds throughout the last few months, mainly on thistles, but also on other plants. At first I thought they were a ladybird larva, but the nearest to this is a 24 spot ladybird, and I have never seen one of those, but hundreds of these...

Morning.

Looks like its the larvae of a Tortoise beetle...possible Cassida rubiginosa?

The dark covering is made up of previous molts and fecal excretions.

What a star !!! Thanks Fauna, googled that and sure enough it came up with pictures similar to mine...
Was going to go with a jam jar and cut a chunk of thistle down with one on it, to see what it hatched into, if no one had the answer. Saved me a lot of trouble there...
