Hello,
Can anyone suggest what made this cocoon on a rather neatly folded leaf of Common Reed ? I've read that the Drinker Moth makes its cocoon on tall grasses including reeds but not found a similar photo of one. Spotted on local marshes this evening.

I found similar in June and unlike you I opened it very carefully to have a look. Mine contained a spider and its egg sac.  
The spider was identified as Clubonia sp. |

Thanks 2dogs2000, I hadn't considered a spider. Perhaps it is Clubiona phragmitis, the Reed-sac spider, which is shown at eurospiders.com and seems fairly widespread according to the distribution map at the NBN Gateway.
