Does anyone know what this insect is? I found it in my house. It has a stinger and I don't know anything about it.   |

I can't be 100% sure but it looks a lot like a horntail.

I'll just add that,despite appearances, they are completely harmless

Definitely a Horntail! The appendage is an ovipositor for laying eggs in wood etc. They do not sting or bite.

Its Sirex (Urocerus) gigas, the Woodwasp or Greater horntail. Spectacular and completely harmless, unless you hold it tightly and it nips your skin! | | |
