Lack of Butterflies?

I saw many more Orange Tips than usual in the spring but few since. Speckled Woods and Meadow Browns seem to be doing very well and I've even seen some Common Blues. These last 3 admittedly at a nature reserve rather than in my garden.

There would've been fewer and fewer as June went on, probably a bit earlier this year as everything else seemed to be.

Thanks for pointing that out to me got it mixed up will sort asp, couple of years back the nature reseve was full of Painted Ladies and Red Admirals but its been weird up here this year Oh by the way if anyone gets the chance to visit Inverness give our local nature reserve a wee visit Merkinch LNR

This is more than a little worrying,
even with the expected general decline, this year seems dire.

Got a smallish garden full of buddlias & jasmine & sugar-loads of insect-usable dahlias,
with the aim of supporting any insects populations - particularly butterflies.

But only seen:
a few red admirals
two tortoise shells
one white admiral
several whites
gate keeper, small heath

should be much more than this !

What's going on ?

The Big Butterfly count had to be extended to 7 August .Their site said the lack of sightings for butterflies was due to lack of sunshine.
