I have just processed a couple more images which were on the same Burdock plant so hopefully the same.

The dorsal shots make it much easier to check the wing pattern, and there's enough of the chetotaxy (hairs & setae) for confirmation purposes. Plus it matches well with photos I took a week ago and checked against the keys.
At this time of year this fly can be found on most burdock heads. Oddly, although I now know how to find the larvae/pupae of Tephritis bardanae in the flower-heads of Burdock, I've never seen the adult fly. |
