| | | Re: Beetles for ID The first is a very distinctive staphylinid (rove beetle) whose name I forget at the moment ( - I am on holiday) and the second is the elaterid (click beetle) Ctenicera cuprea - you might also find some all purple versions of this: it is sexually dimorphic. Ctenicera cuprea (Fabricius, 1775) Elateridae of the British Isles . |

| | | Re: Beetles for ID Paul, thanks for taking the time out from your holiday to ID the click beetle. If you remember the name of the rove beetle let me know. Strangely, the picture seems to have vanished from my post so I'll have to try and put it back up there. |

The picture's still there, it's just that you can't see it.
If the staph was about 1.5mms long, I think it's Platydracus stercorarius - as you can guess from the name, it is effectively a dung beetle! Nice picture - if you look at the front legs you can see they're broad and flattened, for digging |

| | | Re: Beetles for ID Sorry, the rove beetle is genus Staphylinus (head is not extended to the rear) and here Staphylinus erythropterus (Scutellum complete with golden-yellowish hairs).
Regards
Klaas
