A strange one! ~4.5mm. attracted to the outside light at night. 15th June.
Does anyone recognise it?

| | | Re: Mayfly ~4.5mm Hi Janet. Well naturally I don't recognise it, but what close-ups! And I'd like it to stay longer on the page just in case somebody does! |

| | | Re: Mayfly ~4.5mm Thanks for bumping it up Rhona, you can imagine how difficult it was to get those photos when it was near the top of the door frame and in near darkness! I stand on a chair to get moths around the outside light but that is a weak light, while there I can spot these tiny insects! To get the face view (it was upside down) I risked life and limb, nearly broke my back too.
Thanks Ian, you got it! I found a link.. this is a dun. Oh I see you have given a species too, great! There's a book advertised which might be useful, have you seen it? Caënis - Anglers' Curse - an Illustrated Guide

| | | Re: Mayfly ~4.5mm Great you got it anyway in the end, after such heroic efforts to shoot it.
And thanks for the celebratory creamcakes for my hoverflies.
And thanks to The Woodman for the memories.
Come on Janet. Come on John. See the little dog. |

| | | Re: Mayfly ~4.5mm Oh yes! I see the little dog!
I grew up on those too, it seems they were originally Alice and Jerry. I always thought they were a little naff. Janet and John - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
