| | | ant id please Hello,
I followed this ant's progress on the cliffs at Yaverland this evening for about 15 minutes and this is the only photo anywhere near in focus - is it possible to identify it?
It was constantly in and out of holes and cracks in the surface - looking for somewhere to lay eggs or hunting prey?
Thanks, Rob

| | | Re: ant id please Morning Rob,
Probably a Lasius, though there are similar brownish Formica. Not sure if a European key exists to the various caste.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: ant id please It is Lasius, a queen surchung for a place to start a new state. That's why it was running around.
Regards
Klaas
P.S.: There is a key for the German ants, but... in German.
Regards
Klaas
