| | | ID Help please, large flying Insect I'd appreciate some help to ID an insect I saw last Sunday in the Glenfeshie area. I was with a small group and two of these insects landed on one of the group. Someone managed to get one in a pot, and various photos were taken.
It was bigger than any bee or wasp I've ever seen, none of the group had any idea what it was.
Regards, Audrey. |

| | | Re: ID Help please, large flying Insect Thanks Jason, that certainly looks like it, I know nothing about Robber flies, and wouldn't have known where to start. It was certainly in the right habitat, and looking at NBN gateway records, it has been recorded close to where I was.

A great find, and one that I have not seen yet.
Near me we have only the Hornet Robberfly Asilus crabiniformis, which can be bigger than L.flava, the Bumblebee Robberfly, but is not as rare.
Nice find!
Jason.
