| | | Cranefly ID please I have narrowed this cranefly down to a species of Nephrotoma I think. Does anyone know which species it is or where I can find any information to help with identification please?
Many thanks

| | | Re: Cranefly ID please Without running it through the ID keys it seems a bit like N. appendiculata.
But these are the experts The Society for the study of flies (Diptera) / Craneflies
There are some ID keys available there. Although, like most keys, they can be a bit difficult to use with photos. |

| | | Re: Cranefly ID please Evening Marilinda (nice name!),
Agree with Geoff's DF recommendation. Keying will be difficult without a specimen.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Cranefly ID please Thank you both - some things look to have such obvious, striking patterns I make the mistake of thinking they might be easy for an expert to recognise from a photo! The world is a far more complicated place than that but it's always worth a try.
