| | | Spider ID and Hoverfly in flight Can anyone ID this spider found in my garden?
Also my first shot of an in flight hover fly, not easy for me to capture, but happy with this effort.

It does happen some years, but not always. Though it is a resident species its numbers can be vastly increased by migrants.
Agree there are a lot around at the moment though I do recall years with even greater numbers. |

Loads of males but, as I mentioned recently, I'm struggling to find a couple of females a day. |

| | | Re: Spider ID and Hoverfly in flight Just the wider gap between eyes in the female. Sometimes I can do this just by sight but nowadays, even with my glasses, I prefer the magnification of a decent macro lens to look through. |

nice in-flight shot. The spider - 'brave enough'? Well, I just find them a bit dull - but have to say this has a bit of an Amaurobius look to it. How long, excl. legs?
