| | | Roesel`s Katydid A rather beautiful cricket found on our south-facing garage door. Not a UK species, so, is it an escape, something that came in on an imported plant? Also, is it harmful to native species (animal or vegetable), and, finally, will it survive the winter?
Thanks

| | | Re: Roesel`s Katydid Evening Trik,
For 'Katydid', read 'Cricket' - it's an American term. This looks like our usual Roesel's Bush-cricket, which sometimes comes in a long-winged form particularly during hot years or when a colony needs to disperse.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: Roesel`s Katydid This is the winged form of our native Roesels' Bush Cricket - quite a few about this year. |

I did a WAB search before posting, using "Roesel`s Katydid", but had no finds. I didn`t try "Roesel`s Cricket", though, but you would think the search engine would have picked up on "Roesel`s".
Still, she is a lovely insect. I captured her pro tem, until I got some more info, but shall now release her again. Incidentally, as she is of the long-winged form, I assume that it is because the colony needs to disperse. Can`t be because this is a hot year
Thanks
Trik

| | | Re: Roesel`s Katydid Dispersal is probably the most likely, though it's worth remembering it was a very hot and dry spring when they would have been developing |

| | | Re: Roesel`s Katydid I`ll be sure to omit any apostrophe in future searches. Thanks for the info, Matt.
