| | | Flying Ant Day Got the first flush of flying ants here in Kent. Any other counties experiencing it? Gulls and swifts feasting above.

| | | Re: Flying Ant Day Funny you mentioned this - it's been a day here too!Six nests flying, including one in the pot next to my patio door so there's ants everywhere.I gather it's something to do with the temperature that sets them off. The seagulls are still screaming around.

| | | Re: Flying Ant Day I'm in Hayes in Middlesex and we had the same! I had no idea that the 100+ gulls flying above my house were feeding on them!

| | | Re: Flying Ant Day I saw two queens yesterday climbing on grass above a shallow bank near a path, got some pics too. I have seen males and workers for several days now in a small gap by my side door, they are obviously expanding their nest under my foundations as I had masses of soil deposited at the bottom of my stairs. There was gaps at the edges of the stairs at the bottom so they had to be filled, it's an old house!
I had some workers coming out of the path a few days ago, I was stood amongst them trying to get a photo of a fly on the widow sill with ants running up my legs! I stayed until I got a decent shot with ants nearly up to my waist.

Careful inspection and brushing them off, I had some on the inside of my skirt. I think I got a bite under the strap of my sandal as I had a small lump then a huge weeping swelling on the top of my foot for days!!
