Help with Scaeva sp hoverfly please
Thinking this might be Scaeva pyrastri I searched threads and came across Janet's mention of Scaeva selenitica and stripes being more horizontal so am now dithering. Advice appreciated! (Also could someone say how to pronounce Scaeva (sky-va, ski-va, skay-va?)

Hi

It is pyrastri, as the lunules are creamy-white and sweep forward furthest on their inner end. In selenitica, the lunules are yellow and sweep forward furthest at their outer end.

Your first pronunciation is correct...sky-va.
