| | | 3 little flies for ID Good afternoon folks!
Found these 2 little flies today in my Norfolk garden, I hope an ID is possible. So I can stop calling them little flies should I be calling flies like this something else like fruit flies?
Fly 1:
Fly 2:
Fly 2 was a bit longer I think then fly 1 and both were found in my overgrown lawn.
Fly 3:
Fly 3 was found in a flower meadow still in Norfolk.
Thank you for looking!

| | | Re: 3 little flies for ID I have received a message suggesting Xyphosia miliaria or commonly named the thistle gall fly for number 3, after making some checks this looks good to me. Any complaints?

| | | Re: 3 little flies for ID Got a suggestion for Geomyza species for number 1, how about Geomyza tripunctata ?
Another suggestion for Opomyza species for number 2.
I'm going to have a look at the species.

Agree with 1 and 3. Second - I think there is a similar-looking Lauxaniid; wouldn't mind working with those smaller groups next year!
Take care, Jason |

Take care, Jason | Thank you Jason
They are very interesting, I really need a better macro lens to help with IDs of these little guys though, and some good literature.
