Unidentified beetle (bug?)
Seen in southern France in June.

I agree with Jason that it's one of the Meloidae, most probably Mylabris sp.. There are several similar species but I don't know which ones are found in S. France.

I've "googled" these and found lots of references to it being in southern France. So, thanks.

There is a few similar species, but not in France. So Jason is right.
