Jason. | Thanks Jason and Klaus,
£45 seems a lot, or is that the normal amount? Watkins & Doncaster Aerial Nets |

| | | Re: Beating tray I don't suppose they sell a lot so the price isn't as low as you might think. The advantage of buying from (e.g.) W&D is that they are made of strong cotton and wood parts all well put together in a convenient manner for carrying and holding in use. Mine has lasted twenty years!
On the other hand, you can achieve the same end by attaching a piece of old sheet to a wooden frame - perfectly okay if there are two of you (one to hild the tray, one to beat/shake the tree); or you can spread the sheet on the ground below low branches .... |

| | | Re: Beating tray It depends on what you are looking for. You can make it cheap by just taking a white umbrella. Think different about it and you may have ideas what to use instead for it.
The ones you can buy are normally made of stainless steel, kind of mainspring steel so you can fold it together and make it a tenth of the unfolded size. Makes transportation more easy.
The shop I prefer is bioform. That's in Germany and I know the guy who is the owner (he is coleopterologist). Say hello from me and maybe you get a sales discount.
Regards
Klaas

| | | Re: Beating tray Evening SL,
I recommend you get one from W&D too. £45 is quite cheap though - I personally haven't seen them below c£65, so seems a good place to go.
I like to support them on account of their institutional British history in our entomological roots, the products are of great quality (you really get the feeling of them being locally-made with passion) and very efficient in delivery (my last lot of pins arrived in just 23hrs!).
I must say the prices are a little on the high-side (the card 'museum-style' boxes with glass lids+plastazote lining costs some £17!), but I assume this is to off-set annually-sporadic ordering and that.
Take care, Jason
