| | | What is this beastie This critter is one of many that are burrowing into my lawn. Have uploaded a photo in the unidentified section. Anyone have any idea what they are and if they sting. They are the size of a wasp and dont make any noise at all. Brown bodies and yellow wings. About 2cm long.Creeping me out because everytime i look there are more casts on the garden. Thanks all.

| | | Re: What is this beastie Afternoon Keith, and welcome to WAB! Your photo:
It could be a Halictus species of some kind, but can't be certain without closer views. Do you think 12-13mm would be closer to the mark? The yellow is pollen on the leg's pollen sacs, the same colour elsewhere just having got stuck to the hairs.
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: What is this beastie Are these creatures what are known as ground bees. Read that somewhere. They are amazing to watch digging. The casts have a solid tube going through them. absolutly amazed by them. |

| | | Re: What is this beastie Ground bees... I've heard of Andrenids and that as Mining-bees. If these are Halictus they'll be Sweat Bees... but don't ask who gives them these common terms! Your next photo ( 'Linked Thumbnail' code below photo):
Any more photos? Ones directly from above, wings or head would be good
