| | | Couple of Bees for ID/Confirmation Both taken today, Northampton. Bombus pascuorum? Taken in my garden.
Maybe B. Vestalis?

| | | Re: Couple of Bees for ID/Confirmation Top one is Bombus hypnorum - brown - black - white.
Second one, a very faded Cuckoo bee male, possibly B.vestalis but I would think you would need to check the genitalia as it is so faded to get a confident ID.

| | | Re: Couple of Bees for ID/Confirmation The top photos are Bombus hyponorum, it's relatively new species to contry arriving aout 10 years ago, the ginger thorax, and black and white abdomen combination are distinctive to species.
The second I'm not so sure about, it's colours are quite faded but I don't think it's vestalis (I can't see a yellow band above the white tip of the abdomen. To me it looks more like bohemicus but I'm not sure. |

| | | Re: Couple of Bees for ID/Confirmation Thanks, B. hypnorum I did look at but it's range put me off putting a definate on it, but as you say it is now increasing, I can definitely rule this in next time. Thanks for the information guys.

| | | Re: Couple of Bees for ID/Confirmation It's impossible to say which the cuckoo bee is, it could also be B. sylvestris male.
To separate B. bohemicus from B. vestalis (if you know it is either of these but this is worn) you need to see the antennae clearly, in bohemicus the 3rd segment should be about the same length as the 5th (thanks Stuart), in vestalis the 3rd segment is shorter. As far as I can see I doubt this one has a long third segment.
B. bohemicus is also much rarer, and more a northerly species I believe.
