| | | Mirid Bug - but I can't place it. Another one that looked easy. S. Devon close to woodland 06/07/11.
Initially, I thought Dryophilocoris flavoquadrimaculatus but I can't get the colours to match. And the last resort alternative of Globiceps cruciatus seems even worse.
So is this just a colour variation of my first idea or something totally different? |

| | | Re: Mirid Bug - but I can't place it. Afternoon Geoff,
It's Calocoris stysi. What did you find it on? I've often wanted to see one of these.
Take care, Jason |

British Bugs was my first 'port of call' but I failed to find an answer.
I'm not totally sure now, Jason, but I suspect it must have been on Hogweed, or one of the similar umbellifers. I'm not that good on the finer points of this plant family. It was certainly in amongst them.
In fact, I nearly didn't photograph this bug because initially it looked like the common Meadow Plant Bug. But something caught my eye as being different.
It is an interesting site of old and partially decaying oak or chestnut where I have found a number of interesting species including some uncommon hoverflies. But the wood, near the sea and adjoining pasture land, is being gradually taken over by self seeded Sycamore.
Incidentally, on a slightly different subject, I am still finding a few Woundwort Shieldbugs on a nearby site. |
