| | | Rip My dog had fleas, despite using protection. The vet recommended using RIP, a flea killing spray for around the home. I don't know if it was over kill (sorry for the pun) but I bought it incase. Since spraying my home with it, I have found a number of dead insects and spiders. I felt bad However, I do not feel bad for the mold mites which seem to be the only crawlies not dead by the spray. Are they super bugs?!?!?
Should I be concerned that they are in my kitchen? I found them in a box of cereal which we had eaten from and my dog's dry food, all of which have been thrown out. |

| | | Re: Rip Hi Starlight, I goggled Mold Mite because I wasn't sure what one was and read that they like damp humid conditions, so I would look at if you have damp and that chemicals will kill them but only if it reaches them. They also breed quickly so if you don't get them all, they multiply .
A word of caution about the house flea spray, these are very strong chemicals, so don't use then around anyone pregnant or babies, remove fish and other pets from the house and retreat to somewhere else yourself for a good few hours while to chemical do the work.

| | | Re: Rip Hi Littlesparrow,
The household (dog included) stayed in the garden for a lot of the day when we sprayed the house. I have booklice too but *touches wood* I seem to have reduced their numbers. They're still around but it's the mold/mould mites that don't seem to be going.
You are right about the chemicals have to reach them. The only way to get into all those places would be to gut the house.
I am concerned about them now being in our food. I feel paranoid.
Are mould/mold mites the same thing as cheese mites? I saw QI where Stephen Fry said they're common and it is perfectly fine to eat cheese with the mites on, as humans always have done.

| | | Re: Rip I don't think they will harm you in any way if you eat them, they are the same mite that get into flour and bakers sometimes get a rash off them if they are sensitive. I'm not sure if cheese mites are the same but I wouldn't be surprised.

I guess mold and cheese mites are definately related, if not the same thing. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
