| | | two small flies for id please Hello,
These two small flies caught my eye in a marshy area at Yaverland, IoW this evening. One was a pale blue-grey colour with reddish-brown eyes:
The other had green eyes and a reddish colour to the thorax.
Each was around 6 - 7mm long.
I wonder if anyone knows what they are?
Thanks for looking, Rob

| | | Re: two small flies for id please Your first one is Argyra sp. but I can't say which, look at some on diptera.info.. Mine is Argyra diaphana.
Second could be Dolichopus, there's a lot of them but with black antennae and yellow femora it could be a common one I have, Dolichopus ungulatus but I'm more inclined to say it's a female Poecilobothrus nobilitatus. The thorax although can get aged, with this species there's a purple area at edge of the thorax. Look for males with white wing tips! I have hundreds of these on my pond, they have been breeding well since I put in a pond!
Janet
