Hi Guy's. I found this little chap whilst searching thropugh some undergrowth. I spent all day searching through the Insects Gallery without finding it. Or did I? The only thing I found anywhere like, but could not be really sure, was a Nettle Ground Bug. Somehow I have doubts. can anyone put the real name to this little chap. Many thanks.

Is the picture you mean?

If so, I think it shows a sawfly (possibly a Tenthredo sp.)

Hi Gerel. Many thanks for coming to the rescue. I'm sure that you are right about the Sawfly. I have been having a look around and oh gosh, what an enormous variety there are. Thank you so much for putting me out of my misery. Regards to you and yours. Walt.

You're not wrong about the variety and I'm told that it's impossible to identify many if not most from a photo (I'll admit that, with the exception of some of the more spectacular ones like Cimbex spp. I tend to think "ah a sawfly" and move swiftly on

Thank you all so much. I am overwhelmed with the kindness shown and to the welcome recieved from the WAB members. So happy knowing that I have photographed a 'Sawfly'. Wow! I am coming on fine. Only have a Nikon Coolpix 990 but it seems up to the job. Regards to everyone. Walt.
