| | | Re: two micro's and wasp? Hi Ken,
The second micro could be Celypha lacunana.
The wasp is one I have had, I think Ancistrocerus parietinus. Mine was rolling a ball of sand on my sand path, it was big too ~15mm! Invertebrates

| | | Re: two micro's and wasp? Brilliant Janet, as ever - yes, spot on with the wasp - I'll do some more rooting with Celypha lacunana.
Thanks a lot
Cheers

| | | Re: two micro's and wasp? I would not like to put a species name to any Ancistrocerus without seeing a specimen. Even then they are really the realm of the specialist. These can not be done from pics I'm afraid :-( |

I've trawled through a great number of pics on a number of sites and Ancistrocerus parietinus comes closest with the markings and leg colouration, but I appreciate what you say eucera - there appear to be over 200 species, with many less in UK fortunately, but even so, in the interests of accuracy, leave at genus.............
Anyone else got any views? (and of my tiny, tiny micro please!)
Cheers all
Ken

| | | Re: two micro's and wasp? Ken, I have posted mine so take a look.. I felt 'almost' certain mine was correct but I could be wrong! Ancistrocerus parietinus?
Stuart, please take a look at mine and the links I have compared mine to, it seems to be a good match. The face marks on Kens do look the same as mine, as well as the other marks. But I did use the cautionary "I think"

| | | Re: two micro's and wasp? Great series of shots Janet.
Mine is so similar, legs and wing veination and clour/shading, my only difference I can see is the two yellow spots on the thorax, which arent as big or bold as your wasp. But I guess they can vary slightly as hovers can.
Interesting stuff, see what Stuart thinks.
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: two micro's and wasp? I am just wondering what caused you to rule out A. antilope in this case? The yellow markings in all these Ancistrocerus are variable and these pics don' show all of the characters that are in my key (Richards). |

| | | Re: two micro's and wasp? This seems quite different from mine and janets (not necessarily the same of course), even allowing for variation, but I am wildly guessing and asking! BioLib - Ancistrocerus antilope - Obrázek
Give me birds anyday..........................mind you, I got juvenile Coot wrong last week.
Cheers

| | | Re: two micro's and wasp? I think the spots on the thorax would vary Ken. Yours has the fuzzy brownish hairs on the thorax too.
