ID Help please

I've decided I'm hopeless at insect IDs, please tell me what is this and suggest a good guide to help me with insect IDs ! Browsing ramdom photos just isn't helping !

Think you've got Corizus hyoscyami, rather a striking true bug.

For bug ID's there's an excellent site owned by a couple of WAB regulars, I can't link to it directly from here but if you google "British" and "bugs" you should get there.

Have you read this previous post, Dave Insect book

There is a rather basic Aidgap (FSC) booklet which should help to get you to the overall family; British Bugs by Dennis Unwin. After that it tends to get a bit more of a struggle.

Correct bug identification, I'm afraid, is a challenging pastime.

Thanks, I'll take a look at the resouces mentioned - I realised what it reminded me of after posting the photos, a few years ago I took some shots of Firebugs in Budapest, but I understand they are not related.
