| | | Biting horseflies?
We have quite a few of these around just now, and I'm wondering if they're biters?! I'm rescuing them from the sitting room, but might be a bit less fastidious if they turn out to be what bit hubbie's foot this week. I've been looking at a thread where Jason Green and Geoff F and others are discussing Chrysops relictus, Platystoma seminationis, and the size of Tephritids versus Tabanids, and looking at pics of all those am thinking they look a lot like Chrysops relictus? In which case they'll bite? (They're about 15mm.)   |

Here goes another few hours on google... | If they bite, they are females. If they look nervous, insecure and downtrodden, they are males.

Congratulations! Recalling (as I fear I do) the thread about loo levels in a low, and plans to mark out the bowl with helpful gradations, she's a complete marvel, and definitely free to bite. |

They don`t look our Horseflies but I cant yell you if they bite. You have not been bitten yet. The Horseflies in my garden would have tried a good many times by now. Most would be dead for trying. todays` score -:Horseflies 2, Dave 10.
