Visited my local SSSI nature reserve today - Corfe Mullen Meadows, Dorset (a wildflower meadow). Full of marbled white & copper butterflies and burnett moths - plus some interesting wasps/flies. Would really appreciate some help with IDs for the pics below. Many thanks! Jane
Fly - could this be a flesh fly? Approx 15mm long (might have been more)
Wasp - Possibly Tachysphex compiliformis female? Approx 10mm long.
Pic 1 - When I first spotted it, it was hauling a grasshopper back to its nest (bare area of ground surrounded by grass & wildflowers, the reserve is on sandy soil about 1/2 mile from lowland heath). 2nd pic shows it back at the nest, 3rd pic shows it filling-in the nest.
