An insect with black wings and red spots - not a ladybird
We have been up on the South Downs this morning and saw 2 or 3 of these flying insects. Can't find it in my insect book. They'e size of a bluebottle or wasp [with a wasp like body, and had black wings with large red spots. When it flew the wings looked completely red. Have never seen one before.
(We also saw what we believe were several Southern Marbled White butterflies, again, something new to us. A lovely nature walk. Why don't schools take their pupils on walks like that anymore. Loads of flowers and skylarks too.)
Would be grateful if anyone can tell me what they were , thank you.
