Saw this yesterday at Wat Tyler CP. The only match I can find is a vagrant emperor. Can anyone confirm?  |

I think it's a female Southern Migrant Hawker (Aeshna affinis) female - there will be a lot of interest! |

There has been an impressive moth migration event over the past few days so I suppose it's possible that this could've shown up with them, but the fact that it's in the same area as the others last year must make local breeding a possibility!

female southern migrant hawker isn't even in my book! I'm keen to learn though could you point out the ID features that means its not a migrant hawker?

From a side view, there are only fine lines at the side of the thorax rather than a dark central panel there.
