Today, S. Devon, Woodland near the sea.
I'm thinking this is possibly a male Southern Hawker - Aeshna cyanea; but is a slightly bluer form than appears in my ID book.
Either way, this is a new species for me, so confirmation or correction appreciated.
In reality, I could probably have obtained a better photo but, I was checking out some hoverflies when I saw this 'out of the corner of my eye' and though it was another Gold-ringed Dragonfly.
I thought that I ought to take a quick 'reminder snap' for entering into my records when I returned home. But because it was too close to the foliage I knew it wouldn't be a good photo; therefore I just stepped back to get it all into the screen and clicked.
Then, layer on, when editing my photos I quickly realised my mistake.
You can call me an idiot if you wish.
