| | | Re: Flies for ID The first hoverfly, Peter, looks like one of the Dasysyrphus species but I will have to have a think about this one as there are a couple of similar species and those yello spots look rather thin.
No. 3 is an Eristalis and probably E. tenax.
The long legged fly reminds me of Dolichopus but there are a couple of similar alternatives and I'm not much good with this area.
And after consulting 'Mr. Stubbs' I would say Dasysyrphus venustus for the first one. But this is another of those confusing species so I would really prefer to get a second opinion.
The Sarcophaga (#2) looks a bit like S. carnaria but this is another tricky family so let's wait for an expert.

| | | Re: Flies for ID #1 agree with Dasysyrphus venustus as far as it's still named.
#2 Sarcophagidae, there's tons of them which look similar. Diptera.info has an expert who very occasionally pops in and can sometimes tell you what you have.
#3 Eristalis tenax male
#4 & 5 both Dolichopodidae, you really need to see more detail but try the key if you have more angles. http://www.fortunecity.com/greenfiel...Genera.htm#KEY TO
#6 looks like Platypalpus in Hybotidae, it's not the best angle to see. There's far too many of these and an ID will only be given with a specimen.
