I think this is a Hawthorn shieldbug

Good morning Jason,

Thank you for your ID and confirmation.

Both were in an old chalk quarry on Portsdown Hill. Chalk grassland and scrub.

Any Gorse around? I imagine so from the scrub, but it has been known to use Clover in it's absence.

Hi Jason, At the base of the cliff and surrounds, there is quite a bit of Gorse (among other scrub plants).
