| | Insect boxes Can anyone please tell me where I can buy insect boxes or, ideally let me know how to build them. Also , how many per x metre and where best to locate them.
We are working on a small village green
Thank you |

| | | re: Insect boxes Small log piles, random stacks of stones in a sunny spot, some covered with turf to conceal them (from fire bug vandals). I use large dia. Bamboo sections
cable tied to fences, or bundles of bamboo and dried hollow elder twigs tied in sheltered places. Piles of grass cuttings, or an actual compost heap discreetly place placed somewhere well drained.
The insect hotel is popular, a search on here will give you more ideas http://www.wildlifetrust.org.uk/ches...e_habitat2.pdf
Don't forget the Bat boxes http://www.jwaller.co.uk/batgroup/default.asp

| | | re: Insect boxes In addition to Nightshade's excellent advise, most garden centres seem to have a selection of insect homes now. Bumblebee boxes tend to be ineffective though. |

| | | Re: Insect boxes I've seen some interesting butterfly boxes in garden centers that look like bird boxes, does anyone know if they work?
