You're spot-on with the second! Great work. Unfortunately though, the first is a controversial Eupeodes...
Take care, Jason |

Take care, Jason | Thank you Jason .
I do have a number of images of #1. Are there any special features that would help with this one?

| | | Re: Hoverfly for ID I think the first one is Eupeodes latifasciatus. It can sometimes have separated spots, so can E. corollae male but the spots tend to have the shape of the former and they don't appear to reach the sides.

| | | Re: Hoverfly for ID A side view or something from behind which clearly shows whether the outer edges of the spots actually touch the abdomen edge would be ideal, Peter.
From behind and slightly to one side is usually the perfect position for this.
Incidentally, that is an excellent photo. |

| | | Re: Hoverfly for ID Well Peter, it seems to have changed sex! That is Eupeodes corollae female (I'm sure the spots reach the sides in the second pic), the first one is a male so not the same fly.

I took a total of four consequent frames of what I thought to be the same fly but of course it could not have been. Looking again at these, frame 1 and 4 are definitely male, frames 2 and 3 are female.
