| | | Can you ID a nasty stinging insect for me? Hello all,
We have some rather viscious insects living in the pointing of the walls outside our house and wondered what they are?
We live in Kent, they are slightly bigger than ants, black and are flying in and out of the wall, the sting they leave is probably the size of a wasp sting and instantly painful. I caught the one that stung my son earlier and at present have it in a beaker and any movement of the beaker it instantly lays on its back with it's tail in the air wanting to sting again.
Any ideas?
Many thanks in advance

| | | Re: Can you ID a nasty stinging insect for me? It is a bee, and it is a species of Lasioglossum. I have handled countless thousands of these things and received 2 stings (both my fault as I squeezed them). They only ever sting if their lives are in immediate danger. They are completely non aggressive. Have you any idea at all that might explain this extremely unusual behaviour?
The sting from these small Lasioglossums is sharp, but, again in my own experience, over and done with in a minute or so. It was nothing compared to a wasp sting |
