| | | Re: Weevil id I am not sure looks a bit like a black vine weevil - Otiorhynchus sulcatus but I am not knowledgeable on these at all! Shouldn't it have antenna?

| | | Re: Weevil id Hi Les,
#1 is Hypera postica
#2-4 is right determined, Otiorhynchus sulcatus
The yellow thing "attached to his eye" is the first limb of the antennae. I guess the beetle lost most of its antennae while hatching of the pupa and the left over dried out so it got the yellow colour. The "eye" isn't an eye, but the articulation of its antennae. The eyes can be seen, but not very well on the first photo close to the pronotum.
Regards
Klaas

| | | Re: Weevil id Thanks Klaas, that's great info and id. I'm surprised this weevil manages to survive without antennae. Les. |

Klaas | Ahh that explains it. First thing that struck me was "where is the antenna"? Will it survive long without them? By the way lovely photos Les.

| | | Re: Weevil id It is hard to say if it can survive without antennae or not. They smell with their antennae and so it might have some problems in finding food. There is no problem in fiding a mate, because most of all these beetles are not mating, but increase by parthenogenesis. So maybe it will have all chances it needs.
Regards
Klaas
