The pattern, leg colour and antenna etc looks good for Phyllotreta ochripes.

Thank you for your expert help Jason and Chris....and yes it certainly looks like the flea beetle Phyllotreta ochripes.

ps - maybe should have described it as black and straw coloured rather than corn coloured
