A few interesting beetles.

Just a few beetles I've found recently that might be of interest (I hope I've got the ID's correct).

First up is one that is fairly unmistakable, the Rhinoceros Beetle, Sinodendron cylindricum. Found on a dead tree in the garden.

The male,



and again showing the 'horn' that gives it its name.



And the female which doesn't have a 'horn'.



Secondly, I am fairly sure that this is the nationally scarce False Darkling beetle, Melandrya caraboides , not the greatest pic though.



Finally a large (c 20mm) and striking ground beetle which I think is Carabus arvensis

Hi Klaas

that would make this a truly interesting beetle. C. monilis is considered rare and rapidly declining in Britain, it is a priority species on the UK Biodiversity Action Plan and, as far as I can tell from information available on the web, has never been recorded in this area before.
