| | | Pupa in golden cage Sorry but a third request for an id this week!
This fabulous golden 'brandy snap' cage was made by the larva, now pupa, within. It was a little under 1cm in diameter and on mugwort.
Thank you.... |

| | | Re: Pupa in golden cage I can`t help with Id but if they are species that don`t have Pupa you will be able to watch the metamorphosis from pupa to imago. I did this with big Hawthorn sawfly, cut the hard case off to reveal the grub inside the put this an specimen pot.
Magic.

I didn't realise that some species do not pupate. I haven't the heart to disturb it so I think I will leave it be!

| | | Re: Pupa in golden cage Hello Dave,
I am considering doing what you suggest in the hope of getting an id.
This is probably a stupid question but when the pupa undergoes metamorphosis will it come out looking like an adult (as butterflies do) or will it be a nymph or teneral?
I have some chance of iding an adult looking weevil but no chance if it was a 'weevil nymph'.
