the naming of genera and species is often undertaken in quite imaginative not to say flippant fashion; a mycologist I know erected the genus Fujimyces see: Libri Fungorum - Page Image ; when I asked him if it was because it had been found in Japan or was shaped like a volcano he said that oh no, it was named in honour of his wife who at that time was nicknamed 'Fuji' because she smoked heavily!
and (finally) consider Chenopodium vulvaria the plant stinking goosefoot; named by Linnaeus himself - it smells strongly of rotting fish  - was Linnaeus suggesting something about feminine hygiene in 18th century Sweden
