| | | Re: White faced wasp (or bee) Hi Bruce,
Could the face be yellow? It looks to have sun glare on it. It looks like a male Hylaeus communis, the yellow curls up and around the side of the antennae but it doesn't show it well on your pic. That might be due to the angle, I checked my pics and one I have of a mating pair looks the same.
I have these every year, they are ~6mm long.
Janet

| | | Re: White faced wasp (or bee) How anoying....just lost my complete reply due to IE9 check.
Anyway - Thanks Janet. Yes could easily be butterish yellow or cream rather than white. It looked white but then it was in full sun and I didn't get to see it for long before it flew off.
Can't be 100% confident with size as I can't be sure I was at closest focus. However (assuming it was) doing the usual calculation of subject:sensor size it works out at just under 6mm.
Face does look very much like your little bees.

Hylaeus communis is the only one which has the yellow/cream marks going around the antennae. The male is usually a little smaller than the female, I would say just under 6mm.

| | | Re: White faced wasp (or bee) Janet,
IE9 is compatible with op.systems from Vista onwards. On installation it has a very minimalistic look and feel (however you can customise "look" to an extent).
Most obvious advantage is that it makes use of your GPU (if you have one) rather than your CPU which can mean better and faster graphics.
It is also HTML5 compliant which enables you to access the growing number of nifty websites built using HTML5. Lots of flashy new features - if you like that sort of thing (and well.....yes I do ).
Probably includes other goodies that I'm unaware of...

| | | Re: White faced wasp (or bee) Thanks Bruce, I don't seem to have GPU on my computer but I have Vista Home Premium. I tried to find it but only got information concerning the video card which it can be on, or integrated into the motherboard.
The video card I have is Adapter string: Intel(R) G33/G31 Express Chipset Family. Chip type: Intel(R) GMA 3100. Bios information: Intel Video BIOS. DAC type: Internal.
I guess when this computer dies and I get a new one it will be integrated.
