3 big'uns!
Had a bit of a record today as we dipped out not one but three Silver Diving beetles- Hydrophilus piceus. They were absolute beauties. One female and two males.
I really enjoy folks reactions to these wonderous beasts. They can't get over how big they are.

Just out of interest- how many of you have ever had the pleasure of seeing one?
I would be interested to find out just how widespread they are.

Sorry no photos as I was teaching at the time.

Went to an open day at Coombe Valley nature reserve, staff were helping the children with pond dipping,They bought a big jar with this Big beetle in itto show the children, I take it it was one of those big Beetles it poped up so quickly for air then back down again.Amazing Sightto see such a big Beetle.
