| | | id for colourful fly please Hello,
Does anyone recognise this fly? It's brightly coloured abdomen caught my eye, also the narrow waist - like an ichneumon wasp.
Sorry the photos are a bit fuzzy - poor light and it didn't linger long.
Seen in a meadow, Sandown, IoW this evening.
Thanks for looking, Rob

| | | Re: id for colourful fly please Evening Rob,
Useful observation RE the waist, but this is a fly. Note the very low antennal segmentation - 3, compared to c16+ with ichneumon-types.
This is the hoverfly Baccha elongata.
Take care, Jason |
