| | | Lunch break We had a couple of lovely sunny days last week, and, in a sheltered part of our garden, it was warm enough to have lunch outside - in February!
I was sans camera and too late to catch a bumble bee on a viola; but did manage this shot of what I think is a honeybee on a bloom of a Lonicera Japonica Hall's Prolific (I know this because there is a label on it - otherwise I would have no clue).
My wife pointed out some ladybirds sunbathing, and I think these two are a seven spot and a pine ladybird.
Under the table was this little fellow - I have no idea what he will turn out to be - my books show caterpillars but not these. Can anyone help, please?
Finally, on a wall I spotted this squid-like spider. My books are limited spider-wise and do not show him. Any ideas, please? |

| | | Re: Lunch break Nice pics. Your spider is a Nursery-web Spider (Pisaura mirabilis) but I wouldn't have expected to see one this early in the year. |

| | | Re: Lunch break You're lucky - have seen very little insect life in my part of Sheffield with the frost staying on the foliage all day long!
Yes, you have the ladybirds correct - interesting to find a pine ladybird Exochomus quadriputulatus on a low plant.
The pupa looks very much like a large white! Quote:
